Dry Skin
A type of skin that produces less sebum than normal skin. Dry skin lacks the lipids it requires to maintain moisture and build a defensive barrier against external influences as a result of the absence of sebum. This leads to an impaired function of the barrier.
CAUSES
Lack of natural moisturizing factors (NMFs) that contribute to water binding, especially urea, amino acids and lactic acid.
Lack of epidermal lipids because ceramides, fatty acids and cholesterol are necessary to act as a safe skin barrier.
